There are many non profit debt consolidation agency who are reputed. You can also check if they are registered with BBB and check from there website or online about there history by some search and then select one who have the best past record.

Not likely you will find a non profit consolidation company. There are credit counseling and debt management programs. Check here for an NFCC member in your area: http://www.nfcc.org/ .

If you are having financial problems but just want only one payment, shifting debt is a bad idea. Typically folks take out a loan, then run the credit cards back up.

You would be smarter to work on paying off those debts one at a time. Concentrate on the highest interest rate debt first, while paying minimum on the rest. When the highest interest rate debt if paid off, move to the next till they are all paid.

Find ways to bring in more cash to throw at that debt. Have a garage sale, collect alum cans, get a second job.

BAD IDEA! I talked to a guy who works for one and I have a friend that works for a debt collecter and they both said unless you have NO OTHER OPTIONS stay away. The reason being that it never gives you a chance to get better credit until the debt is completely paid off and the consolidation co only pays the minimum necessary so that can take years (depending on how much debt you have). My friend said that one thing most people don’t try is talk to the collectors and many times a deal or payment plans can be worked out.
